Whilst we don’t have our own kennels, we still have a Health and Safety Policy for our volunteers who visit people on our behalf.
Personal safety
* Make sure someone knows where you are going and what time to expect you back
* Know where you are going and how you plan to get there so that you do not look lost and confused in an unfamiliar area
* Consider investing in a personal security alarm
* Use What3Words and send your exact location to someone before attending
* If you park on a drive, make sure your car is pointing towards the road in case you need to leave quickly
* Leave items in your car so you have an excuse to leave the house. This will either give you time to send a message to someone with your location and/or concerns or leave
* Keep your keys in your pocket. Allowing you to leave easily
* Beware of entering a house if the person you have arranged to see is not there
* Keep your shoes on. Leaving your shoes on will allow you to leave quickly if necessary
* If you feel uneasy or in danger in a situation, leave immediately
* Set a timer on your phone to go off part way through your session; this will give you an excuse to go outside and make a phone call.
* Always avoid confrontation where possible. The final decision as to where a dog is rehomed is down to the adoption team so avoid getting into a dispute with anyone
* If someone is aggressive towards you, do not respond. Keep calm and leave
* If you feel at risk, look out for potential escape routes and always keep yourself between the aggressor and the door
* Don’t give out personal information
* Your safety is paramount
