Feeding and Watering policy

A copy of this policy will be given to all foster carers and adopters.

  • Fresh water must be provided for your foster dog on a daily basis. If
there is more than one dog in your household, water must be kept in separate bowls and changed once
daily or sooner if visibly contaminated. Water bowls should be kept separate from food bowls.
  • Each dog should be fed separately as should and dogs that show signs of aggression when fed. All
dogs will be fed at least one meal per day, unless advised differently by the rescue or Vet. We
will work with the foster carer to ensure their dog’s dietary requirements and eating habits are
    met.
  • All dogs must be supplied with a nutritionally balanced diet suitable for their health, activity
levels and stage of life and food should be given appropriate to the individual dog’s behavioural
    and nutritional needs
  • Food intake should be monitored on a daily basis and veterinary advice sought if a dog has not
    eaten for 24 hours.

Sadly, the cost of living has hit dog owners hard and they often think that all dog food is the same.
Your dog may come with some food from its previous owner but if we feel the food is not right for your dog, we will advise that it gradually be transitioned onto something more suitable.
Please ensure that you follow the guidelines for transitioning the food and keep a record of how your dog is coping with the change. It may be that we need to try more than one food to get the right one for your dog.
