Volunteering

Volunteer with UK Spaniel Rescue and Make a Difference

What Volunteers Do

Volunteering is well established in the UK. Most charities and voluntary organisations involve volunteers in some way. They give their time, energy, and skills to help organisations run, from caring for animals and supporting communities to fundraising, admin, and outreach. Volunteers make a real difference every day. Source: https://www.ncvo.org.uk/

Who Volunteers Are

Everyone has the right to volunteer. Volunteers can be any age and from any background. They can be studying, working or retired.
They might be employees of a company given time off to volunteer. They might have a specific skillset – for example, they could be medically trained or a legal professional. They could be looking for work or seeking asylum.

Every volunteer has their own reasons for volunteering

These include:

  • getting experience to get into work or change career
  • supporting a cause that’s meaningful to them
  • meeting other people
  • representing others, as a union rep for example
  • contributing to the local community
  • changing something for the better
  • using their skills or experience to help others
  • doing something completely different or new
  • learning new skills
  • continuing their professional development.

UK Spaniel Rescue is run entirely by volunteers, we don’t have any paid staff. It’s important to understand that volunteering is different from employment:

  • Volunteering is always a personal choice
  • Volunteers are not employees and aren’t covered by employment law
  • Volunteer roles are supportive, not a replacement for paid staff
  • Volunteer duties are flexible and based on what each person can offer
