Foster Agreement

This form constitutes a foster agreement between UK Spaniel Rescue and the person named below

The contract

• I agree to foster the above-named dog until such time as the dog is re-homed.
• Should I wish to adopt the above named dog, I will advise UK Spaniel Rescue and the microchip details will be transferred to my name upon payment of the Adoption Fee.
• I acknowledge that UK Spaniel Rescue cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to property or persons and does not guarantee the physical condition or behaviour of the dog/s
• I will regularly update UK Spaniel Rescue regarding any health and/or behavioural issues and will work with UK Spaniel Rescue ‘s behaviourist to resolve such behaviour as it arises
• If I do not wish to rehome the above-mentioned dog, keepership will transfer back to UK Spaniel Rescue at no extra cost
• I accept that information concerning the past history of the animal is passed on by UK Spaniel Rescue to the foster in good faith and will be as complete as possible and that UK Spaniel Rescue has done all it can to confirm the above-named dog is a Spaniel
• I understand that UK Spaniel Rescue will provide backup and behavioural support and provide everything the dog will need whilst in my care. All items provided by UK Spaniel Rescue will remain the property of the rescue and must be returned upon request.  Food should be passed on to the adopter along with any items that the Spaniel arrived at the foster with

Home from Home terms

I agree:

• To provide warm, dry, draught free, clean and spacious sleeping quarters
• To provide good and sufficient exercise
• To provide sufficient good quality food at regular intervals appropriate to the dog’s age, size, state of health etc. and to supply constant access to clean drinking water
• To allow time for the dog to settle
• To provide qualified veterinary treatment in case of illness or injury
• To ensure any area the dog has access to is secure from accidental release or escape
• To ensure the dog wears a collar and identity tag with UK Spaniel Rescue ‘s name, postcode and telephone number inscribed on it, at all times (to be provided by UK Spaniel Rescue)
• Not to use extendable leads
• Not to allow the dog to roam
• Not to leave the dog tied up unattended in any place
• To socialise the dog with other animals and people where appropriate and to have regard for the Five Freedoms contained within the Animal Welfare Act 2006
• To have the dog(s) neutered or spayed within 3 months of the date of this agreement and on the recommendation of my vet if not already done so (at UK Spaniel Rescue’s expense)
• To provide proper care in the event of my absence e.g. holidays/sickness etc (this to be agreed beforehand with UK Spaniel Rescue if fostering)
• To allow a UK Spaniel Rescue representative to visit from time to time to check on the dog’s progress
• To inform UK Spaniel Rescue in the first instance if I am no longer able to care for the dog
• To inform UK Spaniel Rescue immediately should the dog be lost or stolen, and also when/if the dog is later found. To take every possible step to find the dog (inform the Dog Warden’s service; inform the microchip company (UK Spaniel Rescue will have the details); register on missing dog pet sites such as www.doglost.co.uk; inform vets and local papers)
• To be responsible for any liability in the event of a third party or other claims arising from accident or injury caused by the dog whilst in my care under this contract
• Not to use the dog for hunting, rabbiting, blood sport or any other activity likely to cause harm or kill another living creature
• To return the dog to UK Spaniel Rescue should I no longer be able to fulfil either the terms of this contract or any court order that has been made in respect of the dog or if, as the registered keeper, I can no longer keep the dog for any reason
• I am over 18 years of age
• I have read and abide by the conditions set out in this agreement

The small print

• Spaniels are typically affectionate and friendly and UK Spaniel Rescue will not knowingly place a dog understood to have an unsound temperament. However, no-one can predict how any dog will react in a given situation, especially without complete knowledge of its life experiences, therefore, UK Spaniel Rescue will not be liable for any property damage or personal injury caused by the dog.
• UK Spaniel Rescue makes no representations or warranties regarding the temperament of physical condition of any adoptive Spaniel
• All warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, where they are applicable, are hereby specifically disclaimed
• No Spaniel will be placed in a new home which does not provide a fenced garden, except for apartment dwellers
• Even if the dog has already had a basic obedience course, we urge a ‘refresher’ course to establish respect and a closed rapport more rapidly between dog and owner. Always be sure that the trainer is familiar with the needs and temperament of Spaniels

Please understand that the dogs remain the property of UK Spaniel Rescue and as such, foster carers MUST follow any instruction given to them by our behaviourist or their Home from Home co-ordinator.  This is as much for our benefit as the dog’s but our responsibility is to the dogs.  If a dog bites whilst in foster, it must be reported straight away to your case worker and an incident report completed.  The future for that dog changes dramatically and we must do our utmost to ascertain the trigger and what can be done to prevent it happening again if need be
