Relaxing at Christmas

Normally our lives can have a set pattern of what we might do and with roughly the same times, weekends might be an exception to this.

This means our dogs have plenty of time to relax, sleep, generate new brain cells through that vital downtime, recover and build the mental capacity to enjoy what we do with them.

Christmas comes along and changes all of that. Not only is the entire family home, we are busier, people might come around, we might be up later, drink more, go for extra walks, play more etc etc. This is all great for us, and for a while it is also fun for the dog.

But, we must allow time for rest and sleep for our dog. It needs to recover from the changes and our new demands of its time and interactions.

Signs of not enough sleep or rest are: struggling to settle, chewing, mouthing, humping, over excited, grumpy and irritable, trying to take itself away from everything, over stimulated, over whelmed, snapping, not coping with things or people it would do normally, can’t remember training. Your dog needs sleep and rest!

Sleep is not boring, it is essential for mental and physical health. The body needs to rest.
