Reece

REECE 3

Meet Reece — a one-year-old male Cocker Spaniel who has recently come into our care

He is housetrained, travels well in the car and has never shown aggression towards people. He has no history of biting or attempting to bite a person, and there is no known history of him attacking or attempting to attack another animal.

There are, however, some areas where Reece needs support. He can be reactive towards other dogs when out, which his owner feels may be fear-based. At home, he has experienced conflict and tension with the other dog in the household and can become protective of his toys and resources around other dogs.

Reece can also become anxious and vocal when separated, and he is wary of some men until he has had time to get to know them. He is described as extremely excitable when visitors arrive and can jump up when excited.

His lead walking will need work too, as he is energetic and pulls. Although he has enjoyed playing fetch off lead, his recall has not been sufficiently tested to consider this safe in busy or unfamiliar areas at this stage.

What we know about Reece’s future home

At this point, his assessment is still ongoing, but the information provided suggests that Reece may be best suited to:

  • Being the only dog in the home
  • Experienced owners who understand spaniels and canine reactivity
  • A calm, patient home with plenty of routine
  • Someone able to provide ongoing training and positive socialisation
  • Owners who understand that he may need time to build trust with some people, particularly men
  • A home where his separation needs can be worked on carefully and gradually

Reece is not currently considered cat-friendly.

Still getting to know him

There is much more to learn about this handsome young boy, and we don’t want to make assumptions about what Reece needs based solely on his history.

Our assessment will help us understand his personality, behaviour, triggers and strengths, and give us a much clearer picture of the type of home in which he will thrive.

Reece is therefore NOT currently available for adoption.

We’ll share more information once his assessment is complete and we know more about the lovely boy behind those eyes.

Please note that the information above is based on the initial rehoming information provided and is subject to change as Ralph’s assessment progresses.
