Experiencing Life in the Right Way

With young dogs we want them to see and experience life don’t we. The more they see, smell and are involved helps them grow up into a well adjusted, nicely confident and balanced dog.

The way we do that however, is the important element we need to get right.

Breaking things down into the way each dog learns and takes in new experiences is essential for success.

When we work in line with how much time the dog wants to stop and observe, maybe not walk as far as we thought they might want to, go at their pace, take time to put in a treat search, be calm….these are some of the key ingredients for developing the dog we want.

Let yourself slow down, enable the dog to sniff, watch and learn. Walk near the bushes and trees, stop for a coffee and enjoy being out with your dog in such a good way. Their brains are developing so what you enable to occur in the right way in these moments is important for them and yourselves.

Incorporate this over Christmas too. It is a busy time of year with a lot of change. Allow the dog the time, space and rest time it needs to process it all. Let’s face it, we need that too.
