Respect

Sadly, Caroline is still without power so I’m afraid you are stuck with a rant from me.

Today, buttons have been pressed. A comment on a friend’s rescue page stated that the rescue was limiting itself with regard to rehoming when they were saying adopters had to live within X number of miles from the rescue. Now, firstly, each rescue has its own adoption conditions and adoption contracts whatever they may be. What is common in all rescues is that they all have conditions and each dog in the rescue may come with extra conditions. This is entirely the rescue’s prerogative and probably not open to negotiation.

If a write up for a dog says ‘no children’, then there will be a reason for this and there is no point submitting an application and saying that you have children that are used to dogs. The dog might not be used to children!
If there is a stipulation that the adopting family doesn’t have any other pets, again, there will be a reason. The dog must be with someone who is home most of the day – again, a reason.

Please, don’t risk the possibility of being offended if your application isn’t even accepted because you haven’t read the write up. Please don’t miss information off your application because you don’t think we will find out…we will, we always do.

If a write up says that you have to live within X miles of the rescue, this could be because the dog needs ongoing medical support; it might be that the rescue prefers their dogs to live within X number of miles in case there are any problems and the dog needs to come back to them. It could be for any number of reasons.

We are all here to do our best for the dogs first and foremost
