The dog rescue crisis

Dog ownership and adoption statistics clearly show that there are more dogs in rescue than there are homes for them and with the Cost of Living Crisis and the need for adults to go out to work just to keep a roof over their heads, their homes warm and food in their cupboards, it doesn’t appear to be a trend that will ease up any time soon.

This is, of course, a national problem and with all rescues bursting at the seams and less disposable income to support rescues the outcome could be catastrophic.

Most rescues run a ‘no kill’ policy, only euthanising when every other option has been exhausted but with more and more pets being surrendered, there is a very real risk that rescues may have to start considering the unthinkable…after all, it’s not what rescues were set up to do, is it?

We desperately need Foster Carers to help us to help the dogs, especially people with no other dogs, no children and time to spend helping a foster dog (or two). We pay for everything that your foster dog will need, all we ask of you is time and caring.

If you feel you can (or even might be able to) help, please get in touch with us by completing the form on our website https://ukspanielrescue.co.uk/fostering/
